Important - How we will contact you if you make a successful 'bid'

Please make sure we have all your latest contact phone numbers.  When the cycle closes we will now contact you by text message if you have been successful with your bid.  We can send a text message to landlines and mobile phones.  If you get our text message to your landline phone, you will need to press 1 to receive the message.  (We do not always write to applicants).   If you do not answer you may miss out on an offer of accommodation.

When you receive your text message you need to contact us on 01777 713801 or 01777 713887 to let us know you will be attending the viewing.

What is First Come First Served?

The homes offered through the First Come, First Served scheme gives applicants access to immediate accommodation.

Properties that are advertised under this scheme will not be allocated according to waiting time or Band but will be offered to the first applicant to Bid following the commencement of the advertising cycle. Of course any applicant who Bid’s under the ‘First Come First Served’ scheme must still be on Bassetlaw District Council’s Housing Register and must be eligible for the type of property advertised.

If you are interested in a property advertised under this scheme you must place your bid, then contact the HomeFinder Team as soon as possible on 01777 713801 or 713887 to advise that you have placed a bid.  (Please note our offices are open Monday to Friday 8.40am to 5pm). If you are the successful applicant we will then arrange for you to view the property.

Unlike other properties it does matter what time you bid as it is let on a first come first served basis.

You will still have to pass the normal eligibility checks to be allocated a “first come first served” property.

FIRST COME FIRST SERVED WILL COMMENCE ON THE BIDDING CYCLE OPENING ON 13th May 2010.

Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) now allocates properties using an automated Choice
Based Lettings (CBL) System called HomeFinder, operated by A1 Housing.

HomeFinder allows anyone with an active application on the Housing Register, to search, select and apply for a new home of their choice across any area in Bassetlaw (within the usual eligibility criteria).  Each week A1 Housing advertises newly available properties across the entire district.

The first properties were advertised through HomeFinder on 19 March 2009.

Guiding Principles

Applicants on the register need no longer wait to be contacted when a suitable property becomes free, they may now actively search and bid for properties themselves.  This gives applicants the opportunity of having a say in where they want to live.

This process allows applicants to be actively involved in the decision of getting a property in their area of choice, which should lead to developing more settled and sustainable communities.

The weekly advertised letting cycles (times you can bid) run from Thursdays to Tuesdays and will continue throughout the year.

The allocation of properties will be determined by 5 bands according to housing need – See Prioritising Applications for more details.  To go on to the Housing Register applicants must complete a Housing Application Form.

The application form will provide the information necessary to assess the need for re-housing.  Applicants will be placed in 1 of the 5 lettings bands dependent of their circumstances.  There is a single Housing Register and existing BDC tenants will have their request for re-housing assessed on the same basis as other applicants on the register.

Further information and a full Lettings Policy can be obtained on our website www.a1housing.co.uk or by ringing us on 01777 713887 or 01777 713801 or by visiting our property shops at Worksop or Retford.
